My Approach

My approach to therapy reflects  who I am - depth-oriented, client-centered and eclectic. I am collaborative, open-minded, compassionate, curious and honest. I strive to create an environment where it is safe to talk and safe to be still. I am also interactive in my approach and provide practical feedback and support to help guide you on your journey to wholeness.

I believe that the work you do outside of our sessions is equally as important as the exploration we do in sessions. This will bring you to a place of healing and wholeness as you are doing the ‘work’ that is needed for you to grow.

My therapeutic process has been informed by my upbringing. I was raised by two college professors who instilled the love of learning into my being and I was also fortunate enough to have lived on 4 continents and have traveled the world extensively. From this immersion in education and culture, I bring an awareness into my practice of the truth that everyone, no matter the background, craves a deep need for connection. These diverse experiences have allowed me to truly believe that all are welcome here.

Spending part of my training at Hospice of the Valley and Pathways Home Health and Hospice, I have a special connection with those who are nearing the end of life and are grieving. From these experiences, I developed a deeper understanding of the existential experience where freedom comes when we discover our purpose and find meaning in our lives.

As an eclectic therapist, I believe when we are truly listened to and validated in our experience we can begin to heal and having someone as a witness to our pain can help us rewrite a narrative where we can flourish. That said, I embrace attachment theory and psychodynamic theory as well as utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in my practice as I believe the messages we tell ourselves daily affects how we move through the world. I also utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) when it is appropriate for trauma. This also helps when we have anxious or depressive thoughts and can change how we view the world around us.
